Biodiesel purification by solvent-aided crystallization using n-hexane as solvent

Abstract. Biodiesel is a form of fuel that has natural origin as it derived from organic components such vegetable oil and animal fats. However, biodiesel to be purified based on the required purity standards before can used diesel fuel. This study focuses lab-based purification method which solvent-aided crystallization (SAC) using typical solvent for oilseed extraction n-hexane. Response surface methodology was optimize process parameters. The analyzed via GC-MS determine its fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) content, reflecting biodiesel. effect cooling temperature concentration studied. highest obtained at intermediate parameter levels; 12°C 1.5 wt% predicted optimum parameters within experimental range were 9.924°C 1.131 wt%, with FAME 99.789%. data validated an run, 99.88%, 0.1% difference value. above making this environmentally friendly viable much larger scale in industry.
